No Time to Die – Movie Tuesday

James Bond, Double-0 Seven, No Time to Die came to Amazon Prime this week. I know this because the advertisement section of the Fire TV interface takes up half the screen. Literally half of the user interface is devoted to promoting their programs. The TV’s are amazingly cheap though, so, what are you going to do? No Time To Die is the newest James Bond film. And I will be ruining the ending right after this intro, so if you don’t want to know what happens, now is your chance to click away from today’s Movie Tuesday. James Bond will […]

Last Action Hero Review – Movie Tuesday

Last Action Hero is a 1993 Action-Comedy-Fantasy movie starring Arnold Schwarzenegger and directed by John McTiernan. I had, amazingly enough, never seen it until today despite being in the film’s key demographic. I am roughly the same age as the protagonist was when the movie was released. That’s right. The protagonist was a little kid. And that is one reason I never took the time to watch it. I don’t like child actors or movies with children in them. They’re almost always, for lack of a better term, cringey. But, I figured that this was a turn-your-brain-off action movie and […]

Brian DePalma’s Blow Out Review

Today I am going to talk about the 1981 Brian DePalma film Blow Out. Why Blow Out? Well, I saw a YouTube video with Quentin Tarantino where he was talking about his desert island movies. He says that it’s one of the finest movies ever made, that Brian DePalma is the best director of his generation and that John Travolta gives one of the best performances of all time in the movie. So, if Quentin Tarantino thinks that Blow Out is one of the finest films ever made, it must be pretty good right? Well, you’re about to find out […]

Jackass Forever Review – Movie Tuesday

I feel like, given my age, I am the key demographic for Jackass. I remember seeing CKY2K when I was in high school. The thought of Bam and Dunn and DiCamillo kicking footballs into passing cars still elicits a chuckle from me. Jackass followed shortly after that. And on MTV nonetheless. These guys not much older than me had taken their puerile shenanigans and made it into a viable career in media. It was and—to a large extent—still is inspiring. I mean it is common today to see people forge their careers out of the ether with a DIY mentality, […]

Gleaming the Cube – Movie Tuesday #5

What does it mean to Gleam a Cube? I don’t know, you don’t know and I would wager to guess that just about nobody knows. I couldn’t tell you why they decided to name a late 80’s movie about a teenager skateboarding with his bros, striking up a relationship with his dead brother’s girlfriend, and finding the people responsible for his brother’s death Gleaming the Cube, but they did and we’re going to talk about it today on Movie Tuesday.

Johnny Mnemonic – Movie Tuesday #4

Nestled in between Speed and The Matrix is a Keanu Reeves film that often gets forgotten. And, I gotta say, it’s a little ironic that a movie with the word Mnemonic in it would be forgotten. And yet… here we are. I had never seen Johnny Mnemonic until I checked it out on Netflix this week. I can’t believe I missed this 90’s classic. But, I’m excited to talk about it on today’s Movie Tuesday.

The Northman Review – Movie Tuesday #3

I did it. I returned to the theater. For the first time since the pandemic began, I bought a ticket and sat in a dark room with a bunch of other people and watched a movie. I listened to the crinkling popcorn bags and the disgusting mouth noises of strangers as they seemed to almost deliberately make my experience worse. As they open mouth coughed on my neck and made dumb comments, I watched the movie. Except for the scene right after the first act, because I had to take a piss and, unlike at home, I couldn’t pause the […]

Pig Review – Movie Tuesday #2

Pig—currently available on Hulu—is, without a doubt, the best movie I’ve seen all year. That’s saying something because I watch quite a few movies. Why was it great? Well, I’m going to keep it short because I don’t want to spoil this masterpiece for you. But I will give you my thoughts on today’s Movie Tuesday. I had heard that this movie was good from several people, but I was still skeptical. I feel like ridiculous Nicolas Cage, despite being awesome, has become something of a meme. People like him because it is fashionable to like him. I find his […]

The Bubble Review – Movie Tuesday

Do you remember the pandemic? Do you remember Tropic Thunder? Do you wish they remade Tropic Thunder, but it takes place during the pandemic? Well you’re in luck because they remade Tropic Thunder, but it’s longer, less funny and mostly about the pandemic. And we talk about it on today’s Movie Tuesday. Today we will be reviewing The Bubble. It is a 2022 movie currently available on Netflix. It is a comedy about an ensemble cast making an action movie in a COVID pandemic bubble. This movie is directed by Judd Apatow. You may remember other movies he directed like […]
